Sending kids to school during short term assignment 4-6 months ?

Dear all,

I am considering to accept a 6 month assignment in the Silicon Valley. My kids are 9 and 11 and I will not go without my family.
Do you have experience with such short term assignments and brining kids ? Is there an option to send them to a school during that time ? Where are the best places to find information ?
