Learn to create flower arrangements and experience Ikebana as a creative and meditative dance with nature, space, and perception.

Japanese flower arranging, also called Ikebana, can be practiced as a contemplative art. Under the guidance of Sogetsu tradition Ikebana teacher Ellen Rook, students will learn to create flower arrangements and experience Ikebana as a creative and meditative dance with nature, space, and perception. Like meditation, Ikebana teaches us to really look at and work with what is before us.

The half-day workshop is an opportunity for participants to create arrangements, practice, and learn together. The program also includes meditation, talks, and a reception to celebrate the morning’s creations.

Instructor Ellen Rook teaches Japanese flower arranging in the Sogetsu Ikebana tradition. She also writes poetry and short fiction and is working on Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. She has been studying and practicing meditation since 1980 when she encountered the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and teaching meditation since 2012. She lives in upstate New York
