I am an expert of Yemen and island of Socotra, the place where I was born and where I am still living.
Visitors have very different expectations about Yemen and sometimes available information on websites is distort with usless alerts. I have create this topic to help all people who want to visit Socotra, a paradise island included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list since 2008 for its “biological diversity and threatened species”. why visiting Socotra? for scientific interest, for business, for tourism... many reasons. Socotra island offers miles and miles of white sandy beaches and clear turquoise blue seas teeming with colourful fish, inland mountains decorated with ancient dragon blood trees and hundreds of other unique species, beautiful sceneries and the ancient culture of local people in traditional villages. Socotra has been supported by conservation and sustainability programmes, encouraging a responsible ecotourism rather than a conventional tourism, to protect the environment and the culture of the local people. Socotra needs more help to keep the beauty of unexplored lands, and to preserve them from the new endemic crop: plastic. I suggest you to contact a locals to to have any suggestion on how to organize your visit according to your expectation. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information
